First National Bank of Buhl

In 1920, a small community bank in Buhl Minnesota, became a National Bank, and known thereafter, as The First National Bank of Buhl! The bank will be recognized by the Office of the Comptroller of Currency this month.  We are honored by the recognition of our little bank and the community it serves!

When looking at our centennial milestone, we feel grateful for the opportunity to serve and grow with our fellow neighbors. One of our proudest accomplishments is serving families for generations. We enjoy nothing better than being the bank that opens your child’s first savings account, their first car loan, their first home purchase and then opening their first child’s savings account.  We are so thankful for the privilege to serve you and your family.

Here are some of the old relics that have survived throughout the years! Thanks to some of our customers for holding on to these items and donating them back to the bank! How cool is that!

“Currency Bags for transportation”

“The Meilicke Calculator”

“The Brandt Automatic Cashier”

“One Of The Original Piggy Banks”

“2nd Generation Piggy Bank”

Of course, you can’t allow 100 years of being a National Community Bank pass by unnoticed! On February 28, 2020 both locations will have birthday cake and coffee for the public. Stop in for a visit and help us celebrate!

Also, for the month of February, we want to focus on our children, the future of our community. All month, open a child’s savings account and be entered into a drawing to be held on February 28. One winner per location.  Stop by and ask for more details.

Since we are putting a little more focus on the children this month, we figured we should have a little contest for them too! Through the end of February, we would love for your child to draw a picture or write a story about what the bank means to them. On February 28, we will have a drawing for prizes at each location.

Remember, the first time you walked into the bank? Have a favorite memory? Do you have a story your folks shared with? Share those stories with us on Facebook or our branches to be entered into our memory drawing. A winner at both locations.

Please stop by and celebrate with us through the month of February and have some coffee and cookies.

During our centennial celebration we will be collecting donations for our Chisholm Food Shelf and Mesabi Humane Society. Please feel free to drop off your donations for either of these fine charities.

We cannot express enough of our appreciation for the support we have received from our community and employees. You are the reason we are here, 100 years later! Thank you all very much!!

Update to Regulation CC Thresholds

Starting July 1st 2020, inflation adjustments will impact the thresholds to “Regulation CC” as following:

  • $200 is changing to $225 (Note: the $200 amount is still referred to $100 in Reg CC). This amount is used on case-by-case holds and will impact most financial institutions.
  • $5,000 is changing to $5,525. This amount is used on certain special exception holds, such as large deposit holds, new account holds, and repeatedly overdrawn holds. This change will also impact most financial institutions.
