Penny here!
For those of you who are unaware, April is Community Banking Month, dedicated to celebrating the longstanding tradition of local hometown community banking. Whether you are already banking with us, or considering it, we here at FNBOB would like to share with you what we think are the best reasons for banking with a community bank.
As a community bank, we want to build a relationship with you! We know your name, ask you how your kids are doing and hear about what’s going on in your lives. We are personally involved in activities that benefit our communities, not just because it helps the bank, but because community involvement strengthens our own neighborhoods. Here’s a nice short video touching on community banks: Community Banking Video
Supporting a local business means supporting our local economy. Community banks are relationship lenders that flourish when their customers and communities do the same. Small businesses, which create the majority of new jobs, depend on small, local banks for financing. Although, small and mid-sized banks control less than one-quarter of all bank assets, they account for more than half of all small business lending, and decisions are made locally.
We know that for many, banking is quickly becoming an online transaction rather than a face to face business. We have certain functions in place and are preparing to help you take advantage of the important new tools that are becoming available and to start incorporating all the latest technology that the big banks have. But if you would rather just stop by and see someone in person, we will be happy to see you! And if you call us with a question (218-749-3190), your call will be answered by a real live person, and if they are unable to help you with your questions or concerns they will be sure to direct you to one of our extremely qualified staff members, who will be ready and willing to help!
So, we felt it necessary, on our part, to have a couple small promotional events during the month of April. We will be running a little contest we came up with called “Guess How Many Pennies in the Pig Pen!”. This is a pretty straight forward contest and will be running until April 27th. All you have to do is come into either or both locations, ask to see the “Pig Pen”, and tell us your guess! There will be a winner at each location of two separate individuals; meaning one individual will not be able to win at both locations. Feel free to make a guess at either location to double your chances of winning. If you click the link below you’ll be able to see the regulations and rules of the contest.

If you are interested in learning more about the importance of Community Banks, here is a link to an article which was in response to a blog posted discussing how community banks need to be weeded out. This is a great article by Rob Blackwell who explains the need to keep our community banks relevant and in existence!
